Raita - the name itself screams summer. Raita (Hindi), Thayir Pachadi (Tamil), Mosaru Bajji (Kannada), Perugu Pachadi (Telugu) or sometimes just Pachadi, all refer to a combo of veggies in a curd gravy. Apparently even Odia has a similar sounding name for Raita, namely Pachedi.

Adraki Rathaloo Raita | Sweet Potato Raita refers to Sweet Potatoes stewed in a spiced ginger-yoghurt sauce (we have learnt how to 'masterchef' our recipes to get our family and kids to say wow for everyday, recipes right :-))

What kind of Raitas are possible?

Sometimes, a simple combo of boondi (fried gram flour fritters) in curd becomes a handy Boondi Raita, served along side a spicy pulav / Biryani. Mostly, it is veggies in a tempered or spiced yogurt sauce. Of course, the most popular raitas are with Cucumber, Radish, Onion, Spinach (Palak) ,Potato or even Mixed Veg Raita. Sasmita's Odia special, Nadia Pachedi has me totally intrigued and I can't wait to try it!

At our house, we make the South Indian Thayir Pachadis with veggies like Ashgourd (Pusanika), Okra (Vendakkai) Snakegourd (Podalangai), Ginger, Brinjal, Roasted Bell Pepper, etc. My favourite however remains Pineapple-Cucumber Raita

Sometimes, fruits like pomegranate are also added like this Aloo Anardana Raita, and we love Apple raita at home (recipe up soon!).

I make different kind of raita but never tried with sweet potato. The ginger must be giving a good taste to it.
