Moong Chaat is a quick to make Gluten Free Chaat or snack with whole green gram topped with spices. Perfect for a party or any celebration as a healthy snack

1tablespoonTomatoes (cubed/ sliced_
½teaspoonOil
¼teaspoonCumin
⅛teaspoonTurmeric (a pinch_
¼teaspoonRed chilli powder
½teaspooncoriander powder
½teaspoondry mango powder
½teaspoonroasted cumin powder
½teaspoonSalt
Toppings:
½cupyoghurtBeaten well, optional - skip for vegan or use vegan substitutes
1tablespoonChopped tomatoes and onions
1teaspoonGreen coriander
1tablespoonGreen Chat chutney
1tablespoonKhatti Meethi ChutneyTamarind Date paste
1teaspoonRoasted cumin powder
½teaspoonChaat masala
Instructions
Boil moong with a pinch of turmeric and little salt till soft. If using cooked whole moong, skip this step
Sauté onions tomatoes with spluttered cumin in a pan with ½ teaspoon oil. Once onions turn translucent and the tomatoes get soft, add the spice powders, salt and mix well.
Add the moong sprouts with the boiled water and let it cook. Mash a few moong to give it texture.
If using mashed potatoes and sautéed cabbage, add now
Let it simmer for 4 mins on medium till a thickish consistency is reached.
Serve hot/ warm in a bowl with the toppings indicated
You may also add a handful of sev / gram flour snack to give that extra texture
Notes
Tips and Tricks to make yummy Moong Chaat
You can sub with boiled Channa (chickpeas) if you dont have moong on hand
Onions are optional, although they add a bit of crunch
Boil Moong / Moong Sprouts till they are cooked, but not mushy. Drain all the water and then use it in the recipe
Sometimes moong sprouts turn bitter when boiled, taste a bit before makign the chaat.
Use of yoghurt is totally optional, but it rounds off the flavours in this chaat. If vegan, skip the yogurt or use a vegan substitute (UNFLAVOURED)
You can also top this chaat with Farsan / Sev / Ompudi for added texture and flavour
