New Event at my space - My Mother's Kitchen

After the enthusiastic response to my new series - Healthy Lunchbox Ideas, I had some thoughts percolating for some time …. and thus took shape:

Almost 80% of us would attribute most of our cooking skills and recipes to our moms! Who better than to guide us even when we enter the kitchen as kids, work our first dish with baby steps, then grow up to get married and move away. Yes, today we do have Google to our rescue, but I am sure most of us call our moms (even long distance) to check the perfect recipe for that avakkai pickle or how much jaggery to add to the long-forgotten poppy seeds kheer. I remember when I had to call mom once while she was visiting my sis in the USA for the proportion of Dal-Rice-Spices to make Bisi Bele Bhath for 12 guests at home 🙂

This new event is a tribute to our moms who handheld us through all our trials, bad hair days and wow-days in the same fervour . And in the quest for that perfect recipe, let's remember the magic that was once your mom’s secret recipe and how it was passed on to you. athough I must remind you here that this would also mean any recipes handed over to you by extended family - aunts, grandmoms and also your mother-in-law too !!J

Called “My Mother’s Kitchen” (MMK), I invite all fellow bloggers to participate enthusiastically in this event. .

Starting June 2011, this is a 12 month series, and am sure we shall add on more themes on the way!

The first of these themes for June 2011 is : One Pot Meals

Some points to note:

·         Vegetarian recipes are allowed (no eggs please)

·         Archived entries allowed although new entries are most appreciated.

·         Events shall start from 10th of every month and run for 30 days.

·         Each entry should include a small write up on why this dish is their mom’s special (or from whom ever you got this from) . An anecdote (although not mandatory) would add to the spice of reading.

·         Use of logo would be appreciated although not mandatory.

·         All entries by email would need to have the subject line of the theme of the month prefixed by MMK (eg: "MMK - One Pot Meal" for entries to June 2011) with a linkback to this announcement.

·         Any number of entries are accepted. Non bloggers may also mail me their entries.

Looking forward to your enthusiastic participation.

Do send your entries at momchef77@gmail.com {momchef77[at]gmail[dot]com} before the 9th of the next month.

Cheers,

Kalyani a.k.a Mom Chef

    Kalyani,
You had left a comment to send my Minty coconut rice to this event. But it is not my mother's recipe. Does it still fit the bill? If yes, happy to send it.
