When I told my kids I was making churros , they were freaking out - Happy, anxious and waiting to gobble them up. Ever since we had these at our favourite Mexican restaurant (which sadly has shut down now !) , these are eagerly awaited. The kids ate them last year while at New York. So this was one dish which finally got made after much deliberation ! This link tells us about the origin of Churros and how it became a Latin American dish.

Its similar to a choux pastry, and tastes delicious when eaten warm. I had egg-based recipes and was looking for an eggless version till I stumbled upon this recipe from here.

And my friend who runs a catering business offered me a cloth press with the right nozzle as both the times, the plastic piping bag broke just as the source recipe said. So go with a heavy duty piping bag.

So, lets create some magic with flour, cinnamon and sugar { bet that combo NEVER gone wrong 🙂 !!! }

Prep time : 15 mins | Frying time : 20 mins |  Eating time : Gone in seconds 🙂

Makes : 10-12 pieces (each 3 ~ 4 inches long)

Pin

Ingredients:

Topping - ⅓ ~½ cup Sugar + 1.5 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

For the Churros:

Maida / All purpose flour - 1 cup

Salt - ⅓ tsp

Oil - 2 TBSP

Sugar - 1.5 TBSP

Water - approx ¾ cup

Oil - for frying (about 1.25 cups)

For the Sauce:

Choco chips / chopped semi sweet chocolate chunks - 1.25 cup

Heavy cream - ¼ cup (I used amul heavy cream)

Method:

Mix the topping ingredients in a flat plate and keep aside.

In a saucepan, bring the mixture of salt, water, sugar and oil to a boil. Add 2-3 tablespoon of water more to account for evaporation. Switch off the flame. Bring to the kitchen counter, add flour in batches and whisk in to get a lump free dough. Do this quickly when the oil-water-salt-sugar mixture is still warm.

Heat enough oil for heating. Add the dough in batches to a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle.

Pipe the dough into the warm oil and deep fry till golden and crispy on all sides.

When still warm, roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture and serve warm with the chocolate sauce.

For the sauce:

Place the choco chips / chocolate in a bowl. Simmer the cream till just hot, but not boiling. Pour this hot cream into the chocolate. Wait for 3 mins (do not whisk immediately) and whisk into a smooth and luscious chocolate sauce.

Churros are such a delicious snack with chocolate sauce. I was so skeptical when trying out the eggless version but it tuned out so good. And you are right about the disposable piping bags, they are so thin and break easily.

Eggless churros looks like a perfect snack to finish with some chocolate sauce. I tried them few weeks back but the same thing happened and few of the disposable bags broke while pressing the churros.

I love churros, but have not tried making an eggless version. After you've added the flour and mixed it to make the sticky dough, do you allow the dough to cool down a bit?

Remember leaving a comment the other day but I don't see it. Your churros look very perfectly made. Those with that chocolate sauce are drool-worthy.
