Uppu Sajjige is a no-onion no garlic dish made in South Karnataka for Ekadasi fasting. It can be served for breakfast /snack or even brunch. This is a completely #satvik dish. Do try it and let us know how you liked it . .

In Kannada, Uppu means salt, and sajjige means semolina / rava/ sooji. This quick upma-look alike was made by grandmom every thursday and saturday for her palahaaram (fasting) and Also Ekadasi when she wouldn't eat rice based dishes. In fact, she relished only this kind of upma even sans onions or garlic, especially when her ultra-orthodox elder sisters came over.

Come to think of it, both me and the younger one like this quick-to-make Sajjige a lot. The little one in fact calls this "Upma without seeds!!" Lol :-))

It requires exactly 10 mins and very few ingredients. Let's see how to make this.

Some times simple dishes make you feel more satiated than fancy ones. Just like that I like simple khichdi with a tsp of desi ghee on the top...my comfort food, same way this upma seems to be a comfort food

I too love this simple and no fuss Sajjige. Remember amma telling me that my paati also would eat this during ekadasi ...ekadasi or no ekadasi, this ghee roasted rawa upma/sajjige is my all time favorite. Chiroti rawa used in upma and sheera gives a different texture in comparison to regular rawa .I have now switched over to chiroti rawa permanently
